The At Your Side Medical Advocacy Program...

“We strive to enhance continuity of care"

The increasing growth in the need for a medical advocate, particularly in a person’s later years, is becoming ever more apparent.  As our senior and baby boomer populations are living longer, chronic health conditions are growing in number, and memory loss is becoming all the more prevalent.

The At Your Side volunteer advocates are community members who receive training to help people develop better communication with their doctors and obtain a greater understanding of their medical issues, which can sometimes be difficult to comprehend.  Volunteer advocates do not practice medicine.

Volunteer advocates help people to:

  • Express their concerns.

  • Ask appropriate questions.

  • Understand the medical provider’s answers.

  • Actively participate in their healthcare during doctor visits and treatments.

  • Follow through on the doctor’s recommendations or instructions.
