Medications can be beneficial and vital to anyone attempting to cure an illness or manage a chronic condition. However, medications take on an even more multi-faceted role for individuals aged 65 and over, as aspects of the ‘bigger picture’ begin to change and now includes other risk factors such as, increased adverse affects to multiple prescriptions, or sensitivity issues to drugs as bodily functions continue to change with the aging process.
In order to avoid taking medications that do not interact well with each other, it is more important than ever for doctors to be aware of an individual’s health history, and know all medications that the patient it taking. It is equally important for individuals to take an active role in the care of their own health by being knowledgeable about all the medications they take, and to make this information known to their doctor.
The intent of this Medication section is to provide you with necessary information and tools that allows you to be successful in the management of your own health. With the help of your At Your Side volunteer advocate, you will learn the right kind of questions to ask, how to document and maintain medication records, and very importantly to become a proactive partner between you, your doctor, and your pharmacist.
